Supermoon and Blue Moon 2024 - Best Images From Around The World

The August 2024 super blue moon will put on an epic show around the world, and we’ve rounded up some of the best photos to prove it.

The Super Blue Moon occurs at 2:26 p.m. EST (1826 GMT) on Monday, August 19, 2024, when the Moon is 100% fully illuminated. Moonrise times depend on viewing location.

The full moon in August was seasonal. Blue Moon This means it is the third full moon in a season with four full moons. Kevin McCarthy captured this detailed view of the super blue moon on August 19 from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, before clouds gathered.

“Because of the approaching cloud cover, I had to move quickly to capture an unobstructed image of the Moon,” McCarthy told Space.com in an email. “I took this image handheld, with a 150-600mm telephoto lens at full extension, and then cropped to show the details.”

Photographer Robbie Bisiwarisa woke up at 4am to capture this stunning image of the super blue moon setting over Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House at dawn.

“Although the sky [was] “The sky was a bit hazy, but the color was magical,” Biswarisa told Space.com in an email.

Photographer Lisa Sheslowski sent us this beautiful photo of a bright full moon over Lauderdale Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

“It was a rainy day in Broward County today, but the rain started to let up around 6 p.m. My favorite place was Fort Lauderdale Beach where it still looked cloudy to the north and south,” Sheslowski told Space.com via email.

“There was a small moon dog to the south of the moon as it rose in the sky. It was a very active evening,” Sheslowski continued.
